Below are the answers to some common questions about participating in band.
How old do you have to be to play and instrument at BCS?
Lessons on Band Instruments are offered to students in grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Upon graduation from BCS, students may continue at Eastern High School in a number of performing ensembles.
What Does My Child Need to Participate?
1) Essential Elements 2000 lesson book (can be ordered with rental instrument)
2) Folding music stand (can be ordered with rental instrument)
3) A band instrument in good working condition to use at school and practice on at home.
4) A commitment to practicing the instrument 20-30 minutes each day at home.
How do I get an instrument?
If you need to rent an instrument, Music & Arts Centers will deliver instruments directly to the school. Simply mail in the form (available from Mr. Spratt) with payment and the instrument will be issued to your child at the first scheduled lesson after it is delivered to the school. You can call them at (800)-347-1116 or visit them on the web at www.musicarts.com. Rental prices start at $39.95 for a four-month rental. You may rent from any source you choose. Purchasing an instrument new can be costly. Renting is an affordable and sensible option for beginning students.
• Music is for everyone! If you can not provide an instrument for your child, efforts will be made to include your child on one of the few school-owned instruments. (Instruments are limited and not always available)

If you already own or have borrowed an instrument, please see that it is in proper working condition. Not sure?.....Bring it in to Mr. Spratt a.s.a.p. Small repairs can be done at school. More difficult repairs can be done professionally for a fee.
